the boutique that time forgot

i walked past this bridal shop today and honestly it felt like the world just stopped breathing for a second. it is tucked into this old brick building that looks like it is barely holding itself together with those boarded-up windows staring down like empty eye sockets. the sky behind it was this weird glowing yellow that makes everything look like a scene from a movie where the main character is about to realize their whole life is a lie.

inside the glass it is a total fever dream. you have these mannequins just standing there in sparkly prom dresses and a giant wedding gown like they have been waiting for a dance that was cancelled twenty years ago. the red "BOUTIQUE" letters look so aggressive against the quiet street and it is just fucking haunting how still it all is. while everyone else is out here losing their minds over the latest trends or some stupid viral video these plastic girls are just chilling in their sequins and lace.

it is kind of beautiful but also deeply unsettling because you know that storefront has looked exactly like that since before i was even a thought. the paint is probably peeling in places we can’t see and the dust is settling on those dresses like snow. it makes me feel like shit and also strangely safe at the same time knowing that even when everything else goes to hell this one corner of the world is just going to keep wearing its prom dress and staring at the sidewalk.

we spend so much time trying to be "relevant" and "new" but this place doesn't give a single fuck about any of that. it is just existing in its own little pocket of the nineties or whatever. if the world ended tomorrow i bet those mannequins would still be standing there looking fabulous while the rest of us are just dust. there is something so punk rock about refusing to change even when the rest of the world is screaming at you to move on.
